Bright, bright sun-shiny day?

As I write this blog, my husband Gareth and I are sat on the train to London on route to seeing Hothouse Flowers (His Christmas present!)

The song I most remember listening to by this band in my university years begins with these words...

I can see clearly now the rain has gone,

I can see all obstacles in my way…

As I was thinking about this, it reminded me of how different things appear with alternative perspectives. Or, how much easier things can appear when we can also see, and therefore navigate around, the obstacles in our way. 

There have been many moments in my life that at the time seemed like I might never make it through, things would never be resolved, or everything seemed hopeless. My thoughts were consumed and moving in a downward spiral.

Have you ever had times like this?

When this type of thinking is repeated over and over, ingrained negative thought habits are created, meaning it becomes harder to even recognise we are thinking that way.

What I have noticed, is that there are also days when it seems like the sun doesn’t exist, especially when it hides behind cloud and mizzle (Cornish for rainy drizzle!)

 But the TRUE Truth is, that the sun is still there, and if you had the chance to hop on a plane and fly up above the clouds - that new perspective brings with it a crystal clear blue sky and sunshine view.

The TRUE Truth about us, is that we do have the ability to manage our thoughts and rise above the clouds.

Sometimes, we just need to take a minute to step back from our circumstances to see the big picture in our day to day and identify what obstacles are in our way... Although this usually is far easier said than done - it IS at least in our ability to chose to give it a try.

In the meantime, I also find that something as simple as getting some fresh air, going for a walk, getting to bed early for a decent night sleep, or spending some time with an encouraging friend can be helpful. Maybe that might also be just enough to help you regain perspective and believe that it could be a bright sun-shiny day again soon too
